Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Shariah emphasises on the rights of parents. As children we should be obedient to our parents and serve them as much as we can. However, it is not permissible to disobey Allah Taala and violate the laws of Shariah to please ones parents. Allah Taala mentions in the Quraan:

If they (your parents) compel you to commit shirk (polytheism) with Me, then do not obey them. Associate with them in the world with kindness. (Luqman-15)

It is also mentioned in a hadith:

Ali Radiyallahu Anhu mentions that Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “there is no obedience to creation in disobedience to the creator.”[2]

The beard is the hallmark of a Muslim and a great Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam.

Ibn Umar (Radiyallāhu Anhumā) reported that Rasūlullāh (Salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

“Be different to the idolaters. Make the beards plentiful and cut the moustaches short.” (Sahīh al-Bukhārī 5892)[3]

“Ten traits are from the Fitrah: cutting the moustache, leaving the bearding, brushing the teeth, rinsing the nose, clipping the nails, washing between the finger joints, plucking the underarm hair, shaving pubic hair, doing istinjā’ with water…” (Sahīh Muslim 603)[4]

It is clear from the above that it is impermissible for one to cut his beard even if ones parents commands him to do so. If a person cuts his beard he will be sinful. [5]
