AsalamoAlaqum. From the example of Sahabas, the most pious, knowledgeable among them took the responsibility as Khilafa .Why and when did the Muslim Ulimas left this Sunna?

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘True Khilaafat after me will
remain for 30 years. Thereafter, there will be kings (whose rules and
kingdoms) will be like dangerous dogs.’ (Sharhul Aqaaid).
