To keep a beard is one of the obligations of Islam and also it is a sunna of the prophet peace be upon him. To where Islamic clothing is also important, one should not listen to the demands of one’s parents if it is against the proper Islamic clothing. To wear a cap is also a sunna and a person should try to wear it all the time. If the parents object to that strictly then to take it off once in a while is fine but to take it off completely would not be permissible.
