Assalamalaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh . 1.I want to know whether it is permissible to attend a girl’s or a boy’s nikah ceremony where there is nothing against shariah like no music , it is segregated ,no customs etc ? I’m not talking about walima . 2.Some pious leaders condemn these nikah ceremonies and forbid strictly even the meal prepared by the bride’s side , saying that there is no proof in shariah regarding a banquet on the bride’s end . On what basis do they condemn ? I have stopped attending nikah ceremonies as I respect such pious souls a lot and follow them wholeheartedly Alhumdullilah. But I haven’t got a convincing answer yet . My main purpose of asking these questions is for my better understanding of deen and passing the information to others .

Brother in Islam,
Marriage is a happy occasion. Shariah encourages us to express happiness during occasions.
It is permissible for the boys party or the girls party to invite people to a meal at the time of Nikah, on condition there is no extravagance or show in such invites. There is no prohibition in Shariah for this.
It is permissible to accept the invite for a meal from the boys side or girls side on condition there is no violation of Shariah for example, intermingling of sexes, music, photography etc.
Moreover, it is Sunnah to accept an invite. It enhances family ties and friendship. Not accepting an invite is not Taqwa. There is no Taqwa when one goes against the Sunnah and does not accept an invite without a valid reason in Shariah.
However, if one is aware that there will be violations of Shariah in the invite, then it will not be permissible to accept such an invite.
The Walima is a meal after the Nikah to express happiness upon the union. The Walima is from the groom or his family. The Walima is not from the bride or her family.
