Requesting Mufti Saheb for duas

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamualaykum

I just want to ask you to make dua for me.

Wassalaam

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Beloved Brother,

Hadhrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb Hafidhahullah conveys salaams to you and made dua for you. He too requests you to make dua for him.

Making dua is from amongst the shortest and fastest routes that leads one to Allah Taalah.

Dua is a display of humility and humbleness. The slave of Allah testifies his weakness and surrenders his affairs to his Master. Allah Taalah appreciates his slaves begging him and seeking His mercy. Shariah has emphasized on making dua to Allah Taalah. [1]

Allah Taalah mentions in the Quraan:

Translation: And your Rabb  says:Supplicate(make dua) to me, I shall respond, but those who are too arrogant/proud to worship me will soon enter Jahannum in humiliation.

(Sural Al-Mumin, Verse 60)

Translation: “And when my bondsmen ask you, (O Muhammad), concerning me – indeed I am near. I respond to the prauer of the supplicant when he calls upon me. So let them respond to me (by obedience) and believe in me that they may be (rightly) guided.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 186)

The importance of dua is also understood from the following Ahaadeeth:

Translation: Nabi (ﷺ) said, “Dua (supplication) is worship.”

‏‏(Sunan Abi-Dawood, Jaamiut-Tirmidhy)

Translation: Dua is the essence of worship.

(Jaamiut-Tirmidhy)

Allah Taalah is displeased when His slave does not turn to him and ask him.

Translation: Whoever does not ask Allah, Allah becomes displeased with him.

(Jaamiut-Tirmidhy)

Translation: There is nothing nobler/honourable in the sight of Allah than Dua

(Jaamiut-Tirmidhy)

Shariah has emphasized on making dua for another Muslim in his absence.

Consider the following Ahaadeeth:

Translation: Abu Dharr Radhiallahu Anhu reported that Allah’s Messenger () said:

There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence) that the Angels do not say: The same be for you too.

(Saheeh Muslim, Kitaab Al-Dhikr Wa Al-Dua)

Translation: He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned (for carrying supplication to his Lord) says: Aameen, and it is for you also.

(Saheeh Muslim, Kitaab Al-Dhikr Wa Al-Dua)

Hereunder are some of the duas/supplications made by the Ambiyaa (Alayhimus-Salatu Wassalaam).

(Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 10)

Translation: Remember when Ebrahim Alayhis-Salaam and Isma’eel Alayhis-Salaam were raising the foundation of the Kaabah (and the prayed), Oh my Rabb! Accept from us. Indeed, you are All Hearing, the All Knowing.

Oh our Rabb! Make us obedient to you and make from our descendants a nation that is also obedient to you. Show us our rites and accept our repentance. Without doubt, You are the Most Pardoning, the Most Merciful.

Oh our Rabb! Send to them a messenger from among them who will recite your verses to teach, teach them the book and wisdom and purify them. Without doubt, You are the Mighty, the wise.

(Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 127-129)

Translation: Oh my Lord! Make me one who establishes Salaah, and my progeny as well, Our My Rabb! And accept my prayer

“Our our Rabb! Forgive me, my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established”

(Surah Ebrahim, Verse 40-41)

  • This is the supplication of Moosa Alayhis Salaam, which he read while he was a traveller and desperate for his basic needs.

Transliteration: “Inni Lima anzalta illayye min khairin faqeer”

Translation: “Indeed I am in need of goodness”

(Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 24)

Translation: Moosa Alayhis Salaam said, Oh my Rabb! Forgive me, and my brother and enter us in your mercy. Surely, you are the most merciful of those who show mercy.

(Surah Al-Aaraaf, Verse 150)

  • This is the supplication of Dhun-Nun, Prophet Yunus Alaihis Salaam while he was in the belly of the whale.

Translation: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You; Indeed, I have been of the transgressors.

  • The dua of Yusuf Alayhis-Salaam:

Translation: You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, etc.) in this world and in the hereafter. Grant me death in a state of obedience and include me among Your pious bondsmen.

(Surah Yusuf, Verse 101)

  • The dua of Ayoob Alayhis-Salaam:

Translation: And remember when Ayoob Alayhis-Salaam prayed to his Rabb saying, Difficulty has certainly afflicted me and you are the most merciful of those who show mercy. (So remove my difficulty by your mercy)

(Surah Al-Ambiyaa, Verse 83)

The most important dua is to request Allah to forgive us and grant us a death in the state of Imaan.

(Musnad Ahmad/Muajam Al-Awsat)

Translation: O Allah, make the end of my life the best part of my life, my best deeds my last ones and make the best of days the day in which I meet you.
