Is Zakaat due on savings of a community organization run by a relative?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
As Salaamu Alaykum
A relative runs an organisation for the benefit of the community. Is Zakaat due on it’s savings?

Answer
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

حامدا و مصليا : There is no Zakat due on Waqf. The sums held by charitable organisations are often Waqf, no person is considered the owner but often a trustee is appointed to take care of the amount.

In the above mentioned case Zakat will not be due on its savings if the amount held by the organisation is Waqf and not the property of the administrator or any particular individual. In the event the amount held by the organisation belongs to others it will be compulsory on each of these individuals to give Zakat on their shares. والله أعلم
