RE: dumb questions!!!!

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I just received the email about the brother and/or sister who asked about whether or not it is halal or haram to keep a refrigerator that was used by kafirs. get a clue Islam is the deen of haqq use common sense the sins of others do not affect you so don’t ask pointless questions about the deeds of the kafirs….people please before you ask a question to a scholar think on your own. Allah knows what is in your heart so a mistake will be forgiven as long as you correct it when you learn the truth. please go to to scholars when you really are confused on a challenging topic but depend on yourself and Allah first. the more we depend on the kafirs the more we become like the Catholics, a deen with a hierarchy, Islam has no hierarchy only submission.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

Jazak Allah khayr, Sidi, for your comment.

No question is dumb when asked with a sincere desire to learn, understand the command of Allah, and clarify the right way to proceed in life. When in doubt, it is better to ask than to make assumptions and then fall on one’s face.

Allah has given us a very simple approach to take when one has a problem: He told us,

“Ask those who know if you know not.” [Qur’an, 16.43]

Thus, when one does not know the sound way is to simply ask. This asking can be actual, by posing one’s question to a living scholar who is reliable and god-fearing. The asking can also be ‘effective’ by consulting religious literature that is sound, reliable, and at one’s level of understanding. The first way is generally more reliable than the second: knowledge has a context, spirit, and subtext that one may miss or misinterpret when figuring things out on one’s own.

Thus, while there is certainly no religious hierarchy in Islam–we all stand alone in accountability to our Lord–there certainly is a deep respect for learning and specialization: the sunna of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) is to consult those of understanding and specialization in every sphere of human activity. The more important or dangerous the activity, the more important it is to consult, and there is nothing more important or dangerous than the ultimate spiritual implications of our actions: our every movement may be a means for the pleasure of Allah, if properly directed. If not, the slippery slope to Hell is gruesome indeed… and the road to Hell is paved with poor decisions…

We see this deep respect for learning and specialization clearly in the life of the noble companions of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace): only a handful of them—no more than 20 out of well over 100,000–used to give legal options (fatwa). The others used to consult these scholars for the details of their religious practice, making their own concern proper practice, outwardly and inwardly.

And Allah alone gives success.

Your brother,
Faraz.

Wassalam
