Under UK taxation law, when a higher-rate tax payer gives a donation to a charity, the charity can claim back tax relief on the donation from the government, but the government only gives charities tax relief on donations at the lower tax rate. However the donor is personally entitled to claim back the difference between the higher and lower rates of tax as tax relief on the donation.
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.
It is permitted to claim and accept tax-breaks or deductions that result from one’s charitable donations and even from one’s zakat. However, when giving one’s charity, one’s firm intention should be giving the full amount.
And Allah alone gives success.
