The Study of Hanafi Fiqh & Need for Islamic Scholarship

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

What are the best English language resources for studying Hanafi fiqh? Is there anything comparable in authority and comprehensiveness and detail to Shaikh Nuh’s translation of “Reliance of the Traveller” for Shafi’is?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

Unfortunately, there is nothing like the Reliance in English for Hanafis. Not even close.

Note, though, that anyone serious about their religion should make sure they study the essentials of their aqida (beliefs) and the fiqh the absolutely need (worship, and other areas as they get involved in them, such as marriage or commerce), WITH A QUALIFIED SCHOLAR.

If you ask: where are these? Find them! If you cannot find them, then you will realize what a serious problem we are in, especially in the West. As our tradition scholars and leaders tell us: the number one priority for Muslims in the West must be to (in the short term) fund students pursuing serious long term Islamic studies and (in the long term) establishing high quality traditional Islamic institutions of learning in the West.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
