Question: Is it correct to question a fellow Muslim whether they are feeding us halal and Haraam? If a fellow Muslim gifted anything and no ingredients are written on it (because it is from multipack) is it correct to throw it away on the basis that it is Haraam?
Also in how much detail should we look at E numbers? Is the halal food website extreme in those regards?

Answer:
If the person is a trustworthy and righteous, then there is no reason to doubt him, one should accept his food thinking it is Halal. A Muslim would never feed another Muslim Haraam. We are taught to think good of our Muslim brothers and not to have suspicion for no reason.
However if one has valid reasons to doubt the person, then it would be better to ask and clarify the matter.
If you are given something from a multipack, just because it does not have the ingredients written on it does not necessarily make it Haraam. You can always find the ingredients on the internet or by phoning the company.
It should be remembered that when it comes to food products from animal sources, the Shariah ruling is that everything is Haraam, unless there is a proof that it is Halal. Therefore, until there is solid proof with regards to an animal product that it is from an animal slaughtered in in the Shar’i manner, or that it’s nature changes completely (Tabdeele maahiyyat), it will be considered Haraam.
Therefore it is best to stay away from those E-ingredients which Ulema have said should be avoid. Muti Sacha Saheb used to work on this, but it was too much time consuming so he’s left it now. If you have his halal food guide, follow it.
You are right in saying sometimes websites go over the top in making things haram. I received one such text with a huge list of haram E numbers. I texted back asking them to text me which E numbers are halal? They never got back.
However, keep this hadith in mind, The Prophet of Allah Salla Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam says in a Hadith, “Leave that which puts you in doubt for that which does not put you in doubt.”
