Is this Hadith really in Tirmidhi? (merit of asking for Jannah thrice)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is the below Hadith actually in Tirmidhi? I searched and did not find it. It is doing its rounds on social media:

Whoever says three (3) times:

allahumma innee as’alukal jannnah (O Allah, I ask You for Jannah)

then Jannah will say oh Allah enter him into Jannah (supposedly in Tirmidhi)

Answer

Yes, indeed.

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (saallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘When a person asks for Jannah from Allah thrice, Jannah pleads: O Allah, admit him into Jannah.

And when one seeks refuge against Jahannam thrice, Jahannam itself pleads: O Allah save him from Jahannam.’

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2572, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 1034 & Mustadrak Hakim, vol.1 pg.717)

Declared authentic by Imams: Ibn Hibban, Hakim & Dhahabi (rahimahumullah) in the above references.

The du’a phrase in your question is actually a suggested method of how to practice on this Hadith.
