Sahabah drinking the blood of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

Kindly verify the authenticity of the narration where Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Zubayr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) drank the blood of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Can This narration be used to show the extreme love that Sahabah had for Nabi (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)?

Answer

This has been authentically reported in various Hadith collections. Among them are the following:

Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 554, Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 2210 and Sunanul Kubra of Bayhaqi, vol. 7 pg. 67. Also see Majma’uz Zawid, vol. 8 pg. 269.

Although blood generally is impure, some ‘Ulama are of the opinion that the blood of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was pure . This was his miracle and speciality as the narration further suggest that Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Zubayr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) had extra strength due to the barakah of having the blood of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) in his body.

(Refer: Kitabush Shifa, vol. 1 pg. 149 and Al Khasaisul Kubra, vol. 1 pg. 123)

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Zubayr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) did this out of extreme love for Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

See here for another similar miracle of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
