I am working in a Multi National Company in Northern Part of India. We, Muslims, are very less in this company. For last six months, we have been offering congregational prayers of Dhuhr, Asr & Maghrib in the canteen area. We are not using anything that belongs to the company, except water for Wudu. My boss called me last week and told that he had received complaints from some people as to people are wasting their work time in offering Namaz. He asked about the suggestions from me. I spoke to the fellow Muslims and came to the solution that we would not take break time which is permissible for 40 minutes, to compensate the Namaz time. When I suggested this to my boss, he told me that people have objections on this too; their main objection is as to why people offer Namaz in Company premises. This issue is still unsolved. We are offering Namaz as usual. Kindly tell us what is the best solution? We can leave the job immediately if our company restricts us from offering Namaz.

I am currently working for a bank, and I know at a basic level that you’re not allowed to work in bank due to Interest. This is not an Islamic bank. All that I am doing is checking if the customer has filled in the form right and sending a letter back to the customer, letting them know what is happening about the bank account. I don’t deal with the money or the financial aspect of this. Also is it allowed for a cleaner or someone concerning the food aspects to work at a bank? I was wondering what is the Islamic rule or law concerning someone working at a bank, and is it right for me to still work for them?.

I am about to start a career in law soon. Yet I have been informed that most aspects of English law would be haram to practise. What I would like to know is what principles/rules I should take into account when deciding what area to practise. I.e. would I be allowed to defend people accused of crimes (irrespective of their guilt), or when defending rights, would I be able to advocate rights that may be incompatible with Islam but are a part of English law (homosexual rights etc). What I am asking is what ideas/rules do I use to decide what areas would be permissible and which won’t.
