I read in Reliance of the Traveller that it is necessary to have one’s wudu before putting on a cast. If that is done, does one have to remove the cast and wash underneath it every time he wishes to perform wudu? Does this apply to bandages as well? If I do my wudu and then put a bandage on a wound, do I have to take it off every time I do my wudu?

A. If it is possible to remove the cast without causing any harm, then one must do so, because in this case, one is able to perform a complete wudu. If, on the other hand, removing it harms one, such as increasing one’s ailment or delaying one’s recovery, then doing so is not required. [1] The rulings regarding casts apply to bandages, and the like, as well.
