Committing Sin through the Internet

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
I am forty years old. I was married and had a stable life. One day I had an accident and became paralyzed. I turned to Allah and started memorizing the Quran. Although impotent, I started chatting with women through the internet, then indulged in verbal and visual sexual acts with them. In light of Sharia Law, am I considered an adulterer and will Allah punish me as one?

Answer:
Praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds.

We believe that Satan has envied your having been able to please Almighty Allah. You have succeeded in turning your affliction into a blessing by memorizing the Quran and doing righteous deeds. Unfortunately, Satan has lured you to deviate from the straight path.

You must bear in mind that you will be held to account before Almighty Allah and persistence on committing that sin will make you miserable in this life and the next. Therefore, you must seek forgiveness from Allah and make sincere repentance. Go back to your righteous nature and foil the evil plots of Satan through turning to Allah again with sincerity and He will not turn you down. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
