Women going to Dargah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalaamualaikum,

I was recently asked by my wife, is going to Dargah Haraam for ladies? I do have knowledge that it is not permissible for women to visit a graveyard.

But, I really do not have any evidence to discuss it, it is just heard and said.

Please help me with this.

Jazakallah khair

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

The ruling about cemeteries and Dargahs is the same. Even though Hazrat ‘Aaisha ؓgoing to and visiting the grave of his brother Abdur Rahman bin Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہما is proven, however, as the ladies generally can’t control their emotions and get afflicted in bewailing, and in this time and age as several other prohibited and ill-effect actions are found in the cemeteries, shrines, and especially Dargahs, therefore, women going to the cemeteries and dargahs is prohibited.
