Does the Quran Mention Anything About Healing Stones?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question: Assalamu alaykum

Does the Quran mention anything about healing stones/crystals? I know someone who specially gets stones from Afghanistan that is said to have healing properties or properties that help clear the mind and let you focus better.

Answer: Wa ‘alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

Thank you for your question.

The Qurʾan does not mention healing stones and crystals. As Muslims we believe that nothing can benefit or cause harm except Allah, and all forms of healing are, in reality, Allah’s action. (al-Sanusi, Shah al-Muqaddimat).

Many stones, forms of salt, etc have physical properties which affect people and other things in various ways. Denying this would be to deny the clearly observable; one may benefit from them whilst seeing that the benefit comes from Allah alone. Using them is permissible if one does not believe they intrinsically cause any benefit, and Allah should be thanked for what one does see of benefit.

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.

Wassalam,
