Is there a limit for how much I can sell something for?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have heard that when selling items it is prohibited to rise the price more than twice the amount you bought it for. For example if I bought something at retail for $5 and would like to sell it for $11 this would be wrong, but selling it for $10 would be okay. Is this so?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

1. One can re-sell an item for any price one likes. It is not true that one cannot sell it for more than twice the amount it was bought for.

2. It is sinful, however, to deceive others about one’s product or its market price.

3. See Related Q&A for an outline regarding the fiqh of trade.
