Is cutting hair at different lengths and having designs haram for men?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Is it haram for a male to cut his hair at different lengths, such as number 0 on the side and 3 on top.
Also is it permissible to have designs in his hair, such as a shaved line goin through your hair?
Also explain to me why it is haram and where it is stated?

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

These type of hair cut are Haraam in the Shari’ah.

Narrated Ubaidullah bin Hafs:

that ‘Umar bin Nafi’ told him that Nafi’, Maula ‘Abdullah had heard ‘Umar saying, “I heard Allah’s Apostle forbidding Al-Qaza’.” ‘Ubaidullah added: I said, “What is Al-Qaza’?” ‘Ubaidullah pointed (towards his head) to show us and added, “Nafi’ said, ‘It is when a boy has his head shaved leaving a tuft of hair here and a tuft of hair there.” Ubaidullah pointed towards his forehead and the sides of his head. ‘Ubaidullah was asked, “Does this apply to both girls and boys?” He said, “I don’t know,” but Nafi’ said, -The boy.” ‘Ubaidullah added, “I asked Nafi’ again, and he said, ‘As for leaving hair on the temples and the back part of the boy’s head, there is no harm, but Al-Qaza’ is to leave a tuft of hair on his forehead unshaved while there is no hair on the rest of his head, and also to leave hair on either side of his head.’ ” (Bukhari 7:803)

Also, One must not impersonate unbelieving men in hair styles (i.e having designs on their hair etc,) and other forbidden acts in Islam. A Muslim has to be distinguished from them in all aspects. Imitating non-Muslims and trying to look like them is Haram.

As Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa salam) has said, “Whosoever impersonates a nation (other than Islam) will be (resurrected) from them on the day of judgment”. (Sunan Abu Dawud)

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
