Question:
Assalamualaikum
Respected Mufti Saab
May Allah reward you for your efforts for Deen. I have a question. I have read in the Bahishti Zewar that we have to cover our heads in front
of our maids. Now one Mufti Saheb says the we don’t have to. This has made me confused. I would appreciate if you give me some clarity on this matter.
May Allah bless you, Jazakallah
Salaams
Answer:
The ruling with regards to covering the head in front of the maid (domestic worker) is similar to the ruling of covering the head in front of an ordinary non-Mahram male. As it is not permissible to uncover the head in front of non-Mahram males, it will also not be permissible to leave the head uncovered in front of the maid. (Raddul Muhtaar, Vol. 5, Page 262/3, Bahishti Zewar, Page 280, Part 3)
It is possible that the Mufti Saheb who mentioned that the head can be left uncovered in front of maids may have deduced his verdict from the ruling of slave girls which is not applicable in the case of maids (domestic workers).
