One wished the worse on another person because of what that person did to them forcefully.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicSolutions.org

Question:

One wished the worse on another person because of what that person did to them forcefully.

Although persons are related, no other family members believed the victim’s story.

Nonetheless, over 15 years later, the accused person became mentally ill.

Could this mental illness be attributed to the bad wishes that were made for that person?

Will the forgiveness and dua of the victim for the accused be of any avail?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu `alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

As one progresses through life he is faced with various challenges.

At times one may become the victim of the actions of other people.

There is no barrier between Allah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) and an oppressed person, whether or not the oppressed person is a Muslim. Almighty Allah accepts the dua of the oppressed, heartbroken person.

The victim should realise that sometimes his oppression is a lesson from Almighty Allah. He may be experiencing some difficulties, but there is some hidden good in it that he will not be able to understand immediately.

During that time he should make sabr (exercise patience) and hope for reward from Allah (Subhana wa Ta’ala).

It is very hard to forgive the person that hurts you and has caused you to suffer hardship.[1]

However, one who forgives Almighty Allah will also forgive him. He will be close to Allah.

Likewise only Allah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) knows if your forgiveness and dua will cure this person. However, your forgiveness and your dua for the person will definitely be beneficial for him.[2]

And Allah knows best.
