Question
Was the following Hadith something Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said in his first public address to the Makkans?
“By Allah, you shall die as you sleep, and you shall be resurrected as you awaken, and you shall be rewarded with good if you do good, and bad if you do bad”

This Hadith has been cited by ‘Allamah Ibnul Athir (rahimahullah) in the chapter regarding when Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) was first instructed to give da’wah (i.e. spread the message of Islam and call people to Allah Ta’ala) publicly in Makkah.

I have not been able to locate the chain of narrators, and therefore cannot comment on its authenticity.
