The Days for ‘Aqiqah

Is there a Hadith in Al Mu’jamul Awsat of Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) and Majma’uz Zawaid that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

The ‘Aqiqah is on the seventh or the fourteenth or the twenty first.

How authentic is this Hadith?

Answer:

The chain has been declared weak by ‘Allamah Haythami and Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahumallah).

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 4 pg. 59 and Fathul Bari, Hadith: 5472)

Despite its apparent weakness, its well supported by a narration of Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu’anha) which is recorded in Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 238-239.

Imams Hakim and Dhahabi (rahimahumallah) have declared it authentic (sahih).

(Also see i’laus Sunan, vol.17 pg.118)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has cited this to be the view of the Scholars. This [general acceptance of the scholars – ta’amul] further strengthens the narration.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, after Hadith: 1522)

Note: Kindly refer to a reliable Mufti/Darul ifta for a juristic ruling (fatwa).
