Is this narration authentic?
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The Son of Adam never encountered anything since Allah created him more severe than death, then death is less than what is after”
Answer:
Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The son of Adam never encountered anything more severe since Allah created him than death and death is the easiest of what is to come.”
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 154)
‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain authentic (jayyid) and ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahumallah) has declared the narrators credible (rijaluhu muwatthaqun).
(Targhib, vol. 4 pg. 389/390, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 2 pg. 319 and vol. 10 pg. 334).
Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded a longer version.
