Washing the pebbles before pelting the jamarat

It is mentioned that it is mustahab to wash the pebbles before pelting. Is it correct that there are some narrations in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah which confirm that this was the practice of some Tabi’un?

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the practice of Sa’id ibn Jubayr (rahimahullah) and Tawus ibn Kaysan (rahimahullah).

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 15539, 15541)

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah has also recorded the views of other Tabi’un who were of the opinion that the stones should not be washed. Imam Zuhri (rahimahullah) has stated that the stones should only be washed if there is some dirt on it.

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 15536, 15537, 15538, 15540)

Kindly refer to a Mufti/Darul Ifta for further clarification.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
