You have answered a question here regarding Thawban (radiyallahu ‘anhu). When he would drop his whip from his mount, he would dismount and get the whip without asking anyone for assistance.
I have heard a similar narration regarding Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded the following narration:
Ibn Abi Mulaykah (rahimahullah) says, “At times the halter of the camel of Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) would fall from his hands. He would make the camel kneel and pick it up himself. People would ask him, ‘Why don’t you ask us to hand it to you?’. He replied, ‘My Beloved Rasulullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) commanded me that I should not ask people for anything.’”
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 1 pg. 11)
Although the chain of transmission is weak, the Hadith is suitable to quote.

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has also recorded a narration about not asking others for assistance.
