Which tribe was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) from?

Was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) from the Banu Taym or the Banu Tamim?

Answer

The biographers of Sahabah have mentioned Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) to be from the Banu Taym. Hafiz Ibn ‘Abdil Barr (rahimahullah) has enlisted Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) under the Banu Taym in his book where he discusses the tribes of the various narrators of hadith.

( Al Isti’ab, vol. 3 pg. 92, Usdul Ghabah, vol. 3 pg. 310, Al Imbah ‘Ala Qabailir Ruwah, pg. 48. Also see Tahzibul Kamal, vol. 15 pg. 282)

Some printed editions of Al Isabah of Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) have mention of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) as a Tamimi. This however seems to be a typographical error.
