Nikah in the masjid

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
How is it allowed to have one’s nikah done in a masjid when we are not supposed to talk about worldly things in the masjid? Masjid is the house of ALLAH & it is a place for salat and zikr alone .

Nikah is a worldly matter & it is  forbidden to  have nikah in a masjid according to most of the scholars.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Aisha (Radiyallahu Anha) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “Proclaim the nikah. Have it done in the masjids. Beat the daffs (tambourine drums without jingling discs or bells) for the occasion.”  (Tirmizi vol. 1 pg. 207 Qadeemi)

The illustrious fuqahaa (jurists) state that it is preferable to have the nikah done in the masjid, as nikah is an act of ibaadah (worship).

The above shows that it is not correct to say that nikah is merely a worldly act.
