It is not bad to earn through lawful and halal method. If Almighty Allah has given you prosperity, you may wear expensive clothes and shoes and you may pass your life as per your status. But you should avoid show and pride. One should only intend to express the blessing (of Allah) and gratefulness to Him. One should not consider a person, who has less money, inferior to oneself, i.e. one should not feel proud and superior. You can buy car and flat as per your needs as well, you will not be sinful or accountable for it. Yes, extravagance and spendthrift is a sin. On the Day of Judgment, you shall be questioned about your wealth from where did you earn and where did you spend it? The source of earning should be halal and it should be spent in lawful matters. The rights pertaining to wealth should also be fulfilled. It is not the way of the pious people to get busy in fulfilling carnal desires and worldly demands.
