Dear mufti sahib, please reply.. the brother is worried sick and restless. question regarding actual divorce statement and metaphors:
1) If a person is suffering from a doubt about divorce. Due to doubt the person thinks that he might have said the word ‘divorce’. And due to this doubt the person tries to remember, recall and recap the time and place he might have said this word. And as he is in deep thinking trying to recall, recapture, recap and trying to remember that particular moment/time in the past in his head about this doubt, he finds himself saying the word, ‘divorce’ silently verbally to himself without any intention.
By saying this word silently verbally to himself with no intention, would that count as a divorce? He has and had no intention of any divorce.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The person in reference is suffering from waswasa and he should not pay any heed to any such thoughts. If he is aware that these statements are doubts, then he should simply ignore them. There is no need to be confused. These are insinuations from the devil to put him in doubt. He should focus more towards becoming conscious of Allāh and constantly recite:
اعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
Translation: I seek refuge with Allah from the cursed Satan[1].
In the enquired case and in the context of the query and person, divorce does not take place.
