Allaamah Bahrul Uloom, Malikul Ulama Moulana Abdul Aliy ibn Nizaamuddin
Lakhnawiy was born and brought up in Lucknow, India.
Moulana Abdul-hayy ibn Fakhruddeen mentions about him in his book, ‘Nuzhatul
Khawaatir’ also known as ‘Al-I’ilaam bi man fil hindi minal a’alaam’ (vol.1
pg.1021): He was incomparable with the people of his time. He was a leader
in the knowledge of Fiqh (jurisprudence), Usool (principles) philosophy and
beliefs.’ He further states (on pg.1023): Verily he was from the wonders of
his time and from the beauties of India. People of every field of knowledge
would refer to him and he also know such subjects which people did even
know . no eye saw the like of him in his qualities of excellence. and there
was no match for him in the entire India sub-continent at that time. He has
many great works such as ‘Sharh sullamul Uloom maa almanhiyyaat’,
‘Fawaatihur rahamoot – sharh musallamu thuboot’ and others.
Shah Waliyyullaah (RA) states regarding him, ‘He has surpassed great Ulama
and even his own teachers. The reason for it is that he used to always refer
to the works of the Ulama of the earlier times (Mutaqaddimeen) day and
night. And other used to suffice on what they had heard from their teachers.

One of Bahrul Ulooms’s Ustaads says regarding him, ‘Verily the amount of
knowledge that he has at this age regarding the works of the Ulama of
earlier and latter time (Mutaqaddimeen and Muta-akhireen), many Ulama do not
achieve that in their entire lives. Although he may be young in age, but he
has equaled the ranks of Sadruddeen al-Sheeraazi and Jalaaluddin
al-Dawwaani.’ (Ibid pg.1021)
