Hanafi following the Shaf’i imam in witr

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

As Salamu Alaikum

I am on a short term work assignment in SIngapore. I will be returning home permanently in December.

I am Hanafi. The imam in the local musjid is Shafiee.

When he perform witr after taraweeh, it is in a different format form hanafi (2+1).

Do i follow him in jamaat or do I read my own?

jazakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, according to Hanafi school of thought, it is waajib to perform three rak’at witr with one salaam. [i] [ii]

You should perform your witr separately.
