1. Reciting anything other than Surāh Fātiha in the third or the fourth Rakāh of Fard Salāh. 2. Sitting for Tashahhud after the first Rakāh.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

While prayer 4 rakat farz namaz, in third/fourth rakat after surah fatiha, I started saying bismillah, than realized my mistake that I have not to recite after surah fatiha, should I immdediately stop and go to rukoo or compete one surah. Also consider the fact, if I am praying alone or leading a jamat. Is Sajad Sahw is required. In two or four rakat fard namaz, if person sits, after the first rakat, and started reciting attahiyat. Please advise how to complete remaining namaz. Is Sajad Sahw is required.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is Makrooh (disliked) to recite anything after Surah Fatiha in the third or the fourth Rakah of Fard Salāh. However, this will not render the Salāh invalid and Sajdāh Sahw will not become Wajib (compulsory).[1] The same rule applies if one is leading a Jamāh (congregation).

If a person sits after the first Rakāh for more than three “Subhānallah”, Sajdāh Sahw will become Wajib upon him. If he sat in the first Rakāh for less than three “Subhānallah”, then Sajdāh Sahw will not become Wajib upon him.

In both cases, one should immediately stand up for the second Rakāh upon remembering that he has only performed one Rakāh.
