Imam Nasai and Imam Ahmad (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Imams Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban and Hakim (rahimahumullah) have declared the Hadith authentic.

(Sunan Nasai; Al Mujtaba, Hadith: 2527-2528, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 379 with slight variation in the wording, Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, Hadith: 2443, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 3347, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 416)

Translation

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“[The reward for] one dirham superseded the reward of one hundred thousand (100 000) dirhams. The Sahabah asked, ‘How is this O Rasulullah?’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘One person had two dirhams only, he gave one in charity, another person, who was very wealthy, he gave one hundred thousand from a [small] portion of his wealth.’

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
