Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) always broke his fast and then offered Maghrib

Is this narration authentic?

عن أنس قال: ما رأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قط صلى صلاة المغرب حتى يفطر، ولو على شربة من ماء

Answer

Imams Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban and Hakim (rahimahumullah) have recorded this narration of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Imam Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Hibban (rahimahumallah) have declared the Hadith authentic.

(Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, Hadith: 2063, with slight variation in the wording, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 3504-3505, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 432)

Translation

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “I never saw Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) offer Maghrib Salah unless he broke his fast, even if it was merely having a sip of water.”

This should not be misunderstood as an excuse to delay the Maghrib Salah drastically. Our Nabi’s (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) meals were very basic and brief.
