Question

Assalamu-alaykum

Can we do quran khatams (in groups) for a deceased person (isaale sawaab) or is it bidah?

Jazakallah, may Allah reward you abundantly…ameen

Answer

Yes, we can do khatam for a deseased person. It is not only permissible, but desireble. Salafe Saliheen would be very punctual of this. They would do Isale sawaab through different ways. Most of the times through Sadaqah, Haj Badal, Umrah, Qurbani etc. They would also read Quran and send sawaab to the deseased.
