I have heard that if you go in the path of Allah, any dust that collects on you, that part won’t go to the hell fire, does that mean the whole body won’t? What if you start doing bad sins after that, does that also mean that you won’t? They say if you go in jamaat and for 40 days you pray with jamaat at time without missing any prayers, you will get 2 certificates, one is free from hypocrisy and the other is free from hell fire. Do the same rules above apply to this too and if they don’t, then what is the point of doing this? (Canada)
The meaning of this statement ‘dust in the path of Allah and the fire of hell cannot be combined’ is that the person who makes effort in the path of Allah, his sins will be forgiven and he will be protected from fire of hell.

Allah has mentioned the importance of different actions and the meaning of that is if the person does a good deed it should not be followed by a bad deed, which would erase the affects of the good deed, because every succeeding action can affect its preceding action.

Similarly, actions that are followed by good actions may be erased, it is just like medicine if there is no prevention than it cannot have much effect.

The reference of the Hadith you gave about 40 prayers with two certificates granted to the person is an authentic Hadith. Sins will be for given, salvation from Hell would be attained, prayers with congregations are performed these are some of the benefits. Therefore we should not forsake attending the congregations.
