For all the sins commissioned in the past, a person should perform two rakats of ‘istighfar’ (seeking forgiveness) with full sincerity then repent and recant from all those previous sins. This repentance should be conducted with full embarrassment and humiliation such that even the thought of those sins should be averted at all times in the future, as the saying goes “pray for the past guard for the future”. Whoever’s stolen money that is already been consumed, as the two things are mentioned in the question, if the person was an owner of a store, as indicated in the question, then one should go and seek the owner’s forgiveness stating that I have been doing such and such in ignorance for such a time. Please forgive me for it. If the person doesn’t forgive then one should give a certain amount to please him. May Allah s.w. give consistency in repentance and deal with ease.
