RE: Committing apostasy by intentionally leaving out prayers

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

If one intentionally misses (not out of hatred or contempt of God’s injunctions but out of laziness) Salat for a period of 10 days or so and then regains his motivation to pray regularly and does so for a short period and then again loses his motivation to miss out on Salat once again and this process repeatedly occurs, does he commit apostasy? (Note: He intends to retire one day from what he is doing presently and devote himself completely to following the commandments of Allah)

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

The position of the overwhelming majority of scholars is that intentionally leaving prayers, though a major sin, is not unbelief unless accompanied by denial of the obligation of praying. [Mawsu`a Fiqhiyya; Radd al-Muhtar; Majmu`]
