Men’s piercings

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is it ok for me to pierce my ears? I am a male and I live in the United States. It is not looked bad upon here to wear ear rings as a male.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

The basis–for both men and women–is that they cannot do any permanent “damage” to any part of their body, as our bodies are a trust from Allah. Piercing the ear (and nose) for women (and the like) are considered exceptions to this general rule. Other piercings (including the ear for men) remain on the original basis of impermissibility.

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani
