Who is responsible for zakat payment: me or my husband?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

me and my husband both are working. we spend our salaries on our monthly expenditure (house, bills, etc) in this case who is responsible for paying zakat on my gold jewelery. me or my husband.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

The basis is that each morally responsible person is responsible for their own zakat payments. No one else (whether parent or spouse) is under obligation or expectation to pay on their behalf, though they are rewarded if they do. This applies to both men and women.
