Is the blood found in mosquitoes najis? Mosquitoes obviously don’t naturally have any blood in them, but rather it is sucked up from some poor humans. I’ve been having quite a battle with these pesky insects as of late, and I have quite a few blood stains (my blood, or my wife’s) on the wall and floor where I flattened a few.

Walaikum assalam,

Unless the amount of blood in the mosquito is enough that it would have flowed, it is considered pure (tahir), and does not make surfaces it contacts filthy (najis).

However, it is something offensive to sound temperaments, so it is advisable to remove.

This is understood from the words of Ibn Abidin in his Radd al-Muhtar Hashiyat Ibn Abidin’) where he explains that the blood drawn by small insects does not invalidate one’s wudu, because the amount they drew from the human was not enough to break wudu. [F: And that which does not break wudu is not filthy, either, as the texts establish.] Therefore, the blood within such small insects is not filthy. [Radd al-Muhtar `ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, 1.123-124, Bulaq ed.]

قال في رد المحتار: 1/123-124 (ط بولاق)وَفِيهِ نَظَرٌ لِلْفَرْقِ الظَّاهِرِ بَيْنَ الْبَقِّ وَالْعَلَقِ ; لِأَنَّ دَمَ الْعَلَقِ وَإِنْ كَانَ مُسْتَعَارًا لَكِنَّهُ سَائِلٌ وَلِذَا يَنْقُضُ الْوُضُوءَ , بِخِلَافِ دَمِ الْبَقِّ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَنْقُضُ كَالذُّبَابِ لِعَدَمِ الدَّمِ الْمَسْفُوحِ كَمَا مَرَّ فِي مَحَلِّهِ , وَقَدْ عَلِمْت أَنَّ الدَّمَوِيَّ الْمُفْسِدَ مَا لَهُ دَمٌ سَائِلٌ , وَعَلَى هَذَا يَنْبَغِي تَقْيِيدُ الْعَلَقِ وَالْقُرَادِ هُنَا بِالْكَبِيرِ إذْ الصَّغِيرُ لَا يَنْقُضُ الْوُضُوءَ كَمَا مَرَّ , فَيَنْبَغِي أَنْ لَا يُفْسِدَ الْمَاءَ أَيْضًا لِعَدَمِ السَّيَلَانِ .قال الإمام إبراهيم الحلبي في ملتقى الأبحر: 1/19 (مع شرحه مجمع الأنهر ، ط دار إحياء التراث)(وَمَا لَيْسَ حَدَثًا لَيْسَ نَجَسًا )قال الإمام الحصكفي في الدر المختار شرح تنوير الأبصار: 1/95 (على هامش ردّ المحتار)( وَ ) كُلُّ ( مَا لَيْسَ بِحَدَثٍ ) أَصْلًا بِقَرِينَةِ زِيَادَةِ الْبَاءِ كَقَيْءٍ قَلِيلٍ وَدَمٍ لَوْ تُرِك لَمْ يَسِلْ ( لَيْسَ بِنَجَسٍ ) عِنْدَ الثَّانِي , وَهُوَ الصَّحِيحُ رِفْقًا بِأَصْحَابِ الْقُرُوحِ خِلَافًا لِمُحَمَّدٍعلّق عليه الإمام ابن عابدين في ردّ المحتار: 1/95 (ط بولاق)( قَوْلُهُ : أَصْلًا ) أَيْ فِي كُلِّ وَقْتٍ , فَلَا يُرَدُّ الْخَارِجُ مِنْ الْمُحْدِثِ , وَمِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْأَعْذَارِ لِأَنَّ انْتِفَاءَ الِانْتِقَاضِ يَخْتَصُّ بِوَقْتٍ خَاصٍّ قُهُسْتَانِيٌّ أَيْ فَهَذَا لَيْسَ بِحَدَثٍ مَعَ أَنَّهُ نَجَسٌ , فَلِذَا أَخْرَجَهُ بِقَوْلِهِ أَصْلًا الْمُسْتَفَادُ مِنْ زِيَادَةِ الْبَاءِ الَّتِي هِيَ لِتَأْكِيدِ نَفْيِ الْخَبَرِ . وَقَدْ قَالَ : الْمُرَادُ مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَدَنِ الْمُتَطَهِّرِ وَهُوَ الْمُتَبَادَرُ ; وَأَمَّا مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَدَنِ الْمَعْذُورِ فَهُوَ حَدَثٌ , لَكِنْ لَا يَظْهَرُ أَثَرُهُ إلَّا بِخُرُوجِ الْوَقْتِ كَمَا صَرَّحُوا بِهِ ( قَوْلُهُ : لَيْسَ بِنَجَسٍ ) أَيْ لَا يَعْرِضُ لَهُ وَصْفُ النَّجَاسَةِ بِسَبَبِ خُرُوجِهِ بِخِلَافِ الْقَلِيلِ مِنْ قَيْءِ عَيْنِ الْخَمْرِ أَوْ الْبَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ حَدَثًا لَقِلَّتِهِ لَكِنَّهُ نَجَسٌ بِالْأَصَالَةِ لَا بِالْخُرُوجِ , هَذَا مَا ظَهَرَ لِي , تَأَمَّلْ ( قَوْلُهُ : وَهُوَ الصَّحِيحُ ) كَذَا فِي الْهِدَايَةِ وَالْكَافِي . وَفِي شَرْحِ الْوِقَايَةِ إنَّهُ ظَاهِرُ الرِّوَايَةِ عَنْ أَصْحَابِنَا الثَّلَاثَةِ . ا هـ . إسْمَاعِيلُ
