How many children did the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) have?
In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful
May His blessings and peace be on His Beloved Prophet, the best of creation, and his family, companions, and followers
The blessed Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) had seven children: three sons who all died in infancy, and four daughters.
The three sons of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) are:
1. Qasim: he was the first to die from his children, and he lived 2 years
2. Abdullah: he was born after the Prophet was sent with Islam
3. Ibrahim: he was born eight years after the Hijra and lived 16 months
Shaykh Abu l-Hasan an-Nadawi (Allah have mercy on him) in his book on the life of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“And they have differed (i.e. the scholars) about Abdullah, at-Tayyib, and at-Tahir; some have regarded them as three boys, and the correct position according to Ibn Qayyim is that at-Tayyib and at-Tahir are nicknames of Abdullah. [As-Sira an-Nabawiyya, page 420]
The four daughters of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) are:
1. Fatima: she was born five years before Prophethood, and was wed to Ali ibn Abi Talib (Allah be pleased with him)
2. Zaynab: she was wed to al-‘As ibn al-Rabi’
3. Ruqayyah: she was wed to Uthman ibn Affan (Allah be pleased with him)
4. Umm Kulthum: Uthman (Allah be pleased with him) married her after the death of Ruqayyah (Allah be pleased with her)
[Sifat al-Safwah by Imam Ibn al-Jawzi (Allah have mercy on him)]
All his children (Allah bless him and give him peace) were from Khadija (Allah be please with her), except Ibrahim.
And Allah knows best
