Reflecting over the favours of Allah Ta’ala

Q: I have a problem, that when I think of the zaat of Allah Ta’ala then an image comes to my mind. This image is similar to a children’s cartoon ‘genie’, astagfirullah. I try to get this out my mind but it is not coming out. When ever I make zikr etc this image comes to mind. How can I remove this?

A: Do not ponder on the zaat of Allah Ta’ala as it is not possible for anyone to comprehend the zaat of Allah Ta’ala. The Hadith has prohibited us from pondering on the zaat of Allah Ta’ala. However we have been encouraged in the Hadith to ponder and reflect over the favours of Allah Ta’ala and his marvellous creation (the sky, earth, sun, moon, mountains, stars, etc). Similarly we are encouraged to ponder over the sifaat (qualities and attributes) of Allah Ta’ala e.g. The kindness and compassion of Allah Ta’ala upon his creation or the Qudrat (i.e. power and might) of Allah Ta’ala. This will be a means of creating the true love, awareness and greatness of Allah Ta’ala within our hearts and in turn this will cause us to be grateful and obedient to Him.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
