Forcing the purchaser to accept the item after giving him a refund and cancelling the sale

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I made an online purchase from China. The seller said if it doesn’t arrive within 6 weeks then you can have a refund and that is what happened. After three months, the item arrived. I contacted the seller that it has arrived but I no longer require it so can you arrange collection. The seller that would be too expensive so can you pay me. What is the Islamic thing to do? If the seller doesn’t arrange collection then what should I do with the item?

Bismillaah

A: After giving you a refund, the previous sale had been cancelled. Hence, you are not under any obligation to accept the item.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
