Authenticity of the Hadith regarding the illegitimate child inheriting from the father

Question

What is the authenticity of the Hadith answered here:

Sayyiduna ‘Amr ibn Shu’ayb reports from his father whom reports from his grandfather that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Any man who fornicates with a slave or free woman [and a child is born], that child will be born from zina [illegitimate], will not inherit [from him] nor will the child be inherited from.”

Answer

Imams Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and others have recorded this Hadith with more than one chain.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2113, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2745)

‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has declared one chain authentic (sahih) and ‘Allamah ‘Azizi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic (sahih).

(At Taysir, vol. 1 pg. 412, As Sirajul Munir, vol. 2 pg. 115)

Note: I have merely answered your question regarding the authenticity of the narration in question. This should therefore not be viewed as a Fiqh ruling/fatwa. Kindly contact a Mufti/Darul Ifta for a fatwa on this matter.
