What to say to a person who sneezes more than thrice

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

‘If a person sneezes more than three times, should we tell them: You have the cold.’

Based on this Hadith, is it sunnah to say إنك مزكوم to a person with a common cold who sneezes imitating the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam)?

Answer

Yes, one is indeed encouraged to address such a person with these words.

‘Allamah Ibn ‘Abdil Barr (rahimahullah) states that the Hadith teaches us to address the person with such words after he/she sneezes thrice.

(Fathul Bari, Hadith: 6222)

‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) has also explained this etiquette in Al-Adhkar, after Hadith: 828.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
