Sayyiduna ‘Abbas ibn ‘Abdil Muttalib (radiyallahu ‘anhu)

Is this narration authentic?

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

‘Allah has taken me as a close friend (Khalil) as He took Ibrahim as a close friend. So my house and the house of Ibrahim will be opposite to one another in Jannah, and ‘Abbas will be in between us, a believer between two close friends.

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration via an extremely weak chain.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 141. Refer: Tahdhibut Tahdhib, vol. 6 pg. 446 and Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 2 pg. 591. Also see Kitabud Du’afa of Imam ‘Uqayli, vol. 3 pg. 568 -1049- and Zawaid Ibn Majah of ‘Allamah Busiri, pg. 47)

Note: The following has been authentically reported from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam):

Sayyiduna Jundub (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that he heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say five days before his demise:

“…Allah Ta’ala has chosen me as his bosom friend just as he chose Ibrahim as his bosom friend…”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 532)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
