Using a taaweedh and amulet

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. I would like to find out if an amulet containing Islamic contents such as Dua Jameela on a piece of paper can be blessed by an Imam to place in one’s car as safety to avoid accidents / calamities?

A. It is permissible to use such taaweedh and amulet containing duas, Ayats etc. However, your trust, belief and reliance must be on Allah alone that He Alone can bring good or remove harm.

As for being blessed by an Imam, this is not the correct understanding regarding such matters.

What really happens is that an Imam may make dua for Allah to place benefit in what is being used. He may beg Allah to put His blessings in it, and to remove harm from the person. He may also recite verses of the Holy Quran so that the blessings of the Quran can be achieved for the Taaweedh which is being used. All these are permissible, but, the Imam cannot literally bless something. It is only Allah who blesses all things.

And Allah knows best.
