Should we tell the truth about the broken engagement or hide it?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
The engagement (mangani) of my sister’s daughter took place last eight month back. It was a love affair, we all we against this relation, we were not ready to accept this. The boy’s mother, brother supported our daughter indirectly to leave the home and get married. So under pressure and for the sake of prestige we had to accept the relation and marriage was fixed after one and a half year. Meantime we admitted our daughter to women madrasa, and by grace of Allah (SWT) her heart changed and she started repenting and in last Edul Azha vacation she came home and she told to break the engagement. The engagement was broken and we started searching for bridegroom. We got a good family they liked our daughter and we told the truth that the first engagement was broken, they afterwards rejected the proposal. Now one more proposal has come so our question is shall we tell the truth or hide the past.

Disclosing past is neither useful nor necessary. You should speak about the current situation and qualities of the girl. In case you mention the past people would doubt unnecessarily and develop mistrust; hence you should conceal the past.
